What will your AI visibility audit deliver?
An AI visibility audit investigates how a business can be accessed, understood and represented in selected search and AI answer journeys. Easy Rank agrees on the services, pages, platforms and available account evidence before the review. You receive findings linked to observations, their business significance and the next action worth considering.
- A scoped baseline: named priority services, relevant URLs, target geography, selected questions and available account evidence.
- Access and content checks: inspect whether the important pages are accessible, clear about the offer and supported by consistent business facts.
- Recorded answer observations: log the platform, date, query, answer and cited sources for the agreed sample, with limitations.
- A prioritised decision register: separate verified defects, possible causes and recommendations, with responsibilities and dependencies.
- Implementation and measurement guidance: define what a completed fix would look like and how discovery and qualified enquiries will be tracked separately.
The audit is designed for South African businesses and uses the actual market the business serves. A Cape Town professional service, a national online store and a tourism operator need different question sets and commercial measures. Easy Rank is Cape Town-based. Location-specific samples are recorded as samples, not treated as a complete view of every user, city or AI platform.
What an AI visibility audit South Africa should answer
An AI visibility audit should identify the constraint, explain the evidence and recommend an action with a checkable outcome.
The central questions are straightforward. Can the relevant page be accessed? Does it explain the actual service and market? Can a reader verify the business? Do observed answers represent the offer accurately? Can a suitable visitor make a useful enquiry?
Our AI visibility explanation introduces the wider concept. This page describes a service someone can commission. The self-guided audit checklist remains useful for owners completing their own initial review.
An AI visibility audit does not require rewriting everything. Useful URLs, working enquiry paths and established content deserve protection. A precise correction to one important page can be a better decision than publishing several overlapping articles.
The findings determine the implementation route. Crawl, indexing or rendering faults belong in a technical SEO scope. Product information, category structure and purchase-path issues in an online store belong in a WooCommerce SEO scope. We agree on those deliverables separately from the audit.
Follow the Discovery-to-Enquiry Evidence Map
Separate access, understanding, verification, observed visibility and customer action. Passing one stage does not prove the next.
The Easy Rank Discovery-to-Enquiry Evidence Map is our editorial framework for organising findings. It is not an AI-platform metric or a hidden ranking formula.
| Stage | Evidence to request | A finding that deserves action |
|---|---|---|
| Access | Response, crawl and index-control checks | A relevant production page is unintentionally blocked |
| Understanding | Visible service facts and page purpose | The page never answers who the offer is for |
| Verification | Business records, sources and genuine proof | Conflicting names, coverage or contact details |
| Observed visibility | Recorded answers and available first-party reports | A recurring material misdescription with supporting records |
| Enquiry | A tested customer journey and defined outcome | A suitable visitor cannot complete the intended next step |
Every finding needs a URL, observation date and method. Unknown evidence stays unknown. An unavailable account report is not a zero, and an unchecked box should not become a score.
Agree on the AI visibility audit scope
The proposal should define which services, locations, pages, platforms and journeys the AI visibility audit covers.
A local contractor with three services needs a different review from a retailer with thousands of products. We identify the commercial priority and a representative page set before recommending depth. A full-site crawl, sampled template review and focused landing-page investigation are not interchangeable claims.
Platform scope also matters. A search-enabled consumer answer, a model API response and an account report can show different things. If a platform or account is unavailable, the report should name the limit. We do not imply that a website has been checked across every AI system.
Our AI SEO proposal guide explains the questions a buyer should ask. For the broader implementation offer, see AI search optimisation South Africa.
Inspect technical access without confusing it with selection
A crawler reaching a page does not establish that an answer engine will select or cite it.
The technical review can cover response codes, crawl directives, index controls, canonicals, internal discovery and rendered content for the agreed pages. Google’s robots.txt introduction explains the role of crawl controls. Its canonical guidance addresses duplicate URL signals.
We distinguish intended private or staging restrictions from accidental production blocks. An AI visibility audit should never recommend opening private customer data merely to improve crawler access. If a security or hosting layer appears responsible, ownership and a safe verification method belong in the recommendation.
For sites built on WordPress, our WordPress AI SEO service provides implementation context. The AI agent-readiness guide covers practical readability checks, without implying that agent access guarantees recommendations.
Check whether the business is easy to understand and verify
A page should state what the business does, where it operates and why a customer can trust the relevant claim.
An AI visibility audit reviews service scope, geography, contact details, authorship and the evidence behind important statements. The goal is not to add every related entity name. It is to remove uncertainty about the actual business and the task a page can help complete.
For a Mitchells Plain contractor, listing every Cape Town suburb does not establish actual service capacity. Specific coverage, availability conditions and genuine work examples are more useful. Our local business SEO guide illustrates the importance of accurate local context.
Structured data should agree with the visible page. Google’s structured data policies provide the governing principles for Google features. Our schema SEO service focuses on truthful relationships, not invented awards, reviews or credentials.
Sample AI answers with a recorded method
Prompt sampling can reveal useful observations, but results need enough context to be interpreted and repeated.
Where included, the AI visibility audit defines questions around discovery, comparison, verification and purchase. Record the exact wording, platform, date, search mode, stated location and account conditions where observable. Retain the answer or a permitted evidence capture, cited URLs and any material error.
Repeat selected questions where the scope allows. Different runs can vary, so a single missing mention should not become a universal invisibility claim. Distinguish being named, being cited as a source and being recommended as a provider. Also distinguish live search grounding from model training: an answer does not reveal the training record.
Google says its AI search experiences retain ordinary SEO foundations. This does not create a guaranteed citation checklist. Our AI visibility measurement guide explains how to report observations separately from enquiries and sales.
Use first-party reporting where access exists
Account reports are valuable within their documented scope. They should not be stretched into a census of all AI search.
Bing’s AI Performance announcement describes citation insights for supported Microsoft and partner experiences. If that reporting is available for your site, it can inform the review. It does not establish what every Google or ChatGPT user saw.
Search Console, analytics and business records can add context to an AI visibility audit where you grant suitable access. We should identify which data was inspected, the date range and what remains unmeasured. A public website review alone cannot reveal your exact lead quality or revenue.
Access should be role-based wherever practical. Do not send passwords, customer enquiries or payment records through a general website form. Agree on the minimum information needed for the particular investigation.
A hypothetical Cape Town audit decision
Imagine an air-conditioning business with a useful installation page and an unclear repair offer. This is an illustrative scenario, not a completed client audit.
The owner asks why an assistant recommends competitors for repair work. A first check finds that the site describes installation clearly but never states which repairs it accepts, the actual service area or the next step for a fault enquiry.
The appropriate recommendation is to verify the repair offer and improve the best destination. If repairs are not a current service, a new repair page would misrepresent the business. If repairs are offered, add the missing facts and a useful enquiry route, then check the published journey.
Only after that work is recorded should follow-up observations be compared. A different answer on a later date is not sufficient proof that the wording change caused it. The commercial question remains whether suitable customers can find, understand and use the offer.
Receive a decision register, not a generic task dump
An actionable finding names the affected page, evidence, priority, owner and verification needed.
The exact deliverables depend on the proposal, but the following structure is a useful standard to agree before work begins.
| Decision-register field | What it should establish |
|---|---|
| Observation and evidence | What was actually found, where and when |
| Interpretation | Why it may matter, with uncertainty retained |
| Recommended action | Preserve, repair, improve, consolidate or create |
| Priority and dependency | Why this work comes first and who must contribute |
| Verification | How the completed change will be checked |
| Follow-up measure | Which discovery or business outcome will be observed |
A report, implementation and continuing monitoring are separate scopes. Our once-off versus monthly SEO guide helps compare them. An audit should make your next spending decision clearer, not automatically require an open-ended retainer.
AI visibility audit FAQs
What is included in an AI visibility audit?
The agreed scope can cover technical access, page clarity, business identity, selected answer observations and enquiry journeys. The proposal names the pages, platforms, available accounts and deliverables. Do not assume every audit includes a full-site crawl or live account reporting.
Is an AI visibility audit different from an SEO audit?
It overlaps with technical and content SEO but adds explicit checks of answer representation and citation observations where evidence is available. It should retain ordinary search foundations rather than replace them with an unsupported AI formula.
Can you guarantee ChatGPT or Google AI citations?
No. We can identify verified gaps, implement agreed improvements and measure available observations. Platform selection, changing answers and external competition remain outside our control.
Can the audit work without account access?
Yes, a public-evidence review can still be useful if its limits are clear. Private search performance, complete analytics and internal lead outcomes cannot be inferred from a public page. The report should distinguish public inspection from account-based analysis.
Do you provide an AI visibility score?
Any editorial assessment must explain its criteria and limitations. There is no universal engine-issued score that represents all AI visibility. We favour an evidence-backed decision register over an unexplained percentage.
Will you implement the fixes?
Implementation can be scoped separately or included explicitly in the proposal. Some work may depend on your host, developer, profile owner or booking provider. Responsibilities and verification should be agreed before changes begin.
How much does the audit cost?
The price depends on services, page coverage, platform sampling, account evidence and required depth. Share your website and main concern so that we can propose an appropriate scope rather than a generic package.
How will we know whether the work helped?
Agree on a baseline, completed-change checks and a suitable observation period. Track accurate representation, relevant discovery and qualified customer actions separately. An increase in citations alone is not proof of revenue growth.
What is a GEO and AEO audit?
GEO means generative engine optimisation and AEO means answer engine optimisation. An audit examines whether the business is clear, accessible and supported by evidence in relevant search and answer journeys. It overlaps with ordinary SEO and adds recorded checks of how answers represent the business. There is no universal score or special schema that guarantees recommendations.
What does a ChatGPT visibility audit check?
A ChatGPT visibility audit can record responses to an agreed set of questions, whether search was used, which sources were cited and whether the business details were accurate. It also checks the relevant source pages and enquiry route. The sample, date and interface must be recorded because answers can vary. It cannot reveal private model training data or guarantee future citations.
